What Is the IIHS Safety Pick+ Award?

The IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award recognizes select vehicles that have gone above and beyond to meet or exceed certain safety benchmarks. In order to earn this award, vehicles need to pass a rigorous set of tests and earn top ratings in crash testing among other evaluations.

The prestigious Top Safety Pick award began in 2006, and over the years qualifications have become more rigorous and challenging, which in part led to the introduction of the even more prestigious Top Safety Pick+ award. Most recently, in 2023, the IIHS awards introduced stricter requirements for grading factors like side crash protection, pedestrian crash prevention systems, headlights and more.
